Employee Training And Development Of HRM

What is Training and Development?

Training & Development is a continual process of enhancing employee productivity and performance by increasing skills, gaining information, clarifying ideas, and changing attitudes via structured and planned instruction. Training and Development focuses on improving the performance of people and groups within an organization through an appropriate system that focuses on the skills, methods, and material necessary to reach the goal. Employee training that is both effective and efficient aids in the development of skills and knowledge, which in turn helps a firm enhance its production, resulting in overall growth. (Dowling, 2005)

Training and Development Process

1. Determine the need of training and development for individuals or teams

First and foremost, the need for training and growth must be recognized. It must be in line with the company's aims and ambitions. If a corporation wants to create a new department or reinforce an existing sales staff with new items, it will need to invest in proper training. (Konings, 2009)

2. Establish specific objectives & goals which need to be achieved

The training and development goals and objectives must be developed. Whether the objective is to raise awareness about new items or to learn how to install them, knowledge is essential.

3. Select the methods of training Next, methods have to be defined. The training can be done as a

  • Classroom Training
  • Online Self-paced courses
  • Course with certification
  • Instructor led online training

4. Conduct and implement the programs for employees

After the plan and techniques are determined, training and development programs must be implemented, in which workers, partners, or vendors are taught courses and instructions.

5. Evaluate the output and performance post the training and development sessions

Training and Development is incomplete without proper monitoring. Monitoring can be done through evaluation of the instructor as well as attendees. Instructor evaluation can be done through feedback or ratings but attendees can be evaluated through internal or external certifications or scores.

6. Keep monitoring and evaluating the performances and again see if more training is required

Based on the evaluation results in the previous step, management needs to ascertain that if the training and development program was sufficient for now or more training and enablement would be required.

Importance of Training and Development

  • Optimum utilization of resources
  • Development of skills like time management, leadership, team management etc.
  • To increase the performance, productivity and motivation
  • To imbibe the team spirit
  • For improvement of organization culture
  • To improve quality
  • To increase profitability and bottom line by acquiring new skills
  • Improving brand image by having well trained employees

Conclusion

Every organization requires training and development as a growth strategy. It is used by the organization to bridge the skills gap between current and future opportunities. These training programs unquestionably improve employees' skills, efficiency, productivity, and opportunities for growth. Skills, knowledge, and attitudes are the foundations for an organization's human resources to run a business efficiently. However, the impact of these fundamentals is frequently diminished due to a lack of an effective training program. Investing in the development of employees increases the value of the organization's human resources. Organizational capabilities can be improved by improving employee capabilities. As a result, the organizational structure becomes flatter, with fewer levels between the top and bottom employees.
